A: No, you don't. Go to Tools > Options > Connect > Options then click on the button title Perform. On the top of that window, click the box next to "Enable Perform on Connect" and then put in the commands you'd like to use on connect, like your login and channel joining options.
Q: How do I keep logs on IRC?
A: Go to Tools > Options > IRC > Logging. Select Automatically log both and to have Timestamps on logs. The rest of the settings can be set as you'd like.
